Community Service
All students in grades four and above are required to perform a certain number of community service hours during the school year. Community service is a vital component of each student’s character development. Community service forms are available in the school office and from the religion teachers. Also, forms may be downloaded from the school website. Community service is defined as volunteer work to help someone in the community other than a family member. St. Anthony students may earn community service hours by helping students at the Applied Behavior Learning Center for children with autism at the St. Clare House across the street from the school, by volunteering to work during the First Friday Dinners, Lenten Fish Fries, and other school fund-raising activities, or by volunteering in their own individual ways in their churches or communities. The number of service hours required varies by grade level: eight hours per year for fourth- and fifth-graders, 12 hours for middle-school students, and 15 hours for ninth-graders.
The requirement for community service reflects our school mission of "Striving to live the Gospels by sharing our faith and resources." It is important for parents to encourage their children to use their time and special talents in ways to help the communities in which they live. If a student fails to complete the required number of community service hours during the school year, he or she must complete the hours required during the summer and return the completed forms before he or she will be accepted as a student for the following school year. Community service is part of the students’ religion grade.
