The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston has, since October 2003, been conducting sexual abuse training sessions for parish staff, school staff, and adult volunteers who are involved with children in the church and school communities. The Virtus program training is part of the implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Youth.The Diocese has mandated that adults involved with young people in the schools and parishes must complete the diocesan sexual abuse awareness training before being allowed to work with students. Sessions throughout the state are advertised on the Virtusonline.org website. Parents and other adult volunteers may call the school for more information.
A Virtus training session has been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, beginning promptly at 6:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Elkview. Please call (304) 767-1465 for directions.
Additionally, students at St. Anthony receive Protecting God’s Children: Touching Safety instructional lessons that explain and emphasize safe friends, safe adults, and safe touches.
